FolaPro® provides folate as 5-methyl tetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) which is a highly absorbable form of folate. It is the biologically active, 'body-ready' form of folate which means it does not need to be converted and is ready for use by the body.
Folate is also need for normal blood formation, the function of the immune system and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
Many supplements contain folic acid which then has to undergo a number of steps within the body in order to be converted to the useable form - 5-MTHF. The final step in this conversion is carried out in the body by an enzyme called MTHFR but many people have a genetic mutation which means this enzyme has reduced efficiency in converting folic acid to 5-MTHF.
The form of folate in FolaPro® does not require this conversion so is the ideal choice for people whose folate status may be affected by genetic variation.
